Sue Shear Fellows Alumni

Amethyst Award

The Amethyst Award is made possible by a generous gift from an Institute supporter who wanted to recognize the next generation of women leaders.

The Award is given to a Shear Fellow who has inspired others by applying skills and knowledge gained at the 21st Century Leadership Academy.  The Amethyst Award winner will inspire others by either:
1.) overcoming great personal odds
2.) emerging as a strong voice in her chosen field or
3.) raising awareness of an important issue to a new level.

The recipient will be selected by a committee and will receive an unrestricted cash award of $1,000. The award will be presented at the Academy’s keynote dinner. Only graduates of the 21st Century Leadership Academy are eligible for this award.

Join us as a Leadership Academy Intern

During the first week, interns will help finalize planning details and make sure we’re ready for the upcoming class of Fellows.  The second week, interns will get to “relive their Academy experience” with the wisdom of veterans.  Interns are role models + counselors + trouble-shooters + and extra set of hands, eyes and ears for the week.  We provide your housing and meals during the week of the Academy, but note that you are responsible for meals and lodging the week before.  In return for your time and good cheer, you will receive a modest stipend and premium seating at the Institute Insanity Party (also known as “the week before the Academy”)!

It’s a great opportunity to reconnect with women faculty you met when you were a Fellow, and meet a whole new class of Shear Fellows and women leaders.  It’s also a way to practice your leadership skills and help other women develop into the leaders they were born to be!

Scholarship Opportunities

The Sue Shear Institute for Women in Public Life is pleased to again offer graduates of the 21st Century Leadership Academy an opportunity to apply for funding from the Nancy Siteman Fellows’ Fund, made possible by a generous gift from Nancy Siteman.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide a limited source of funding for Shear Fellows wishing to pursue public interest activities that may otherwise be prohibitive because of cost.
